Alan Rodgers FCCA CTA - Director

Alan Rogers Advoco Accountants

After completing his degree Alan trained with a small practice dealing primarily with owner managed businesses. He then completed his training with BDO Stoy Hayward in their audit department. Once qualified Alan returned to a practice locally in Weymouth focussing again on owner managed businesses before joining the practice in 2005 and becoming the sole Director in 2011. In his spare time Alan enjoys football, watching now rather than playing and spending time with his family.

John Somers M.A.A.T - Manager

John was brought up in East Devon and educated at Colyton Grammar School. He started his accountancy career in 1998 and qualified as a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians in January 2001. He is currently studying towards the Association of Tax Technicians qualification. John joined Advoco in May 2008 as a manager. He manages a portfolio of personal and corporate clients ranging from IT and defence consultants to retail and building companies. He advises on all aspects of personal and corporate taxation, IR35, computerised and cloud based accounting packages and provides general business advice. John’s weekends are mainly spent with his wife and young family. Any spare time he does have is usually spent following the stock market or various sports.

Jacky Comben - Account Manager

Jacky was born in Weymouth and brought up and educated in Germany. Upon returning to the UK Jacky joined a local Accountancy practice gaining a vast range of knowledge and experience, leaving some years later to become a finance director for a local export firm. Jacky subsequently joined Advoco in 2002 and is now an Account Manager, Jacky manages a broad portfolio of clients ranging from farmers, caravan parks and engineering firms. In her spare time she enjoys reading, swimming and cooking.

Rebekah Endean MAAT - Accounts Assistant

Rebekah was born in Weymouth and educated at Thornlow School, upon leaving school she worked in the banking industry and as finance officer for a local charity before joining Advoco in 2011. Rebekah is finalising her AAT qualification and is looking to begin her ACCA studies. She helps to look after a range of businesses and has a good knowledge of Sage and QuickBooks. In her spare time Rebekah enjoys reading, cycling and swimming and is a member of Rotary International.

Sharon Drew - Account Manager

Sharon moved to Weymouth from St Andrews in Fife as a teenager. She previously worked both for a local brewery and a manufacturing company as a Sales Finance Manager. She started working at Advoco when her son was very small on a part time basis doing bookkeeping, admin and payroll. Over the years she has increased her hours and received on the job training for her current role as an accounts manager. She still runs a few payrolls to keep her knowledge up to date and provide holiday cover for Anita, the payroll manager. In her spare time she enjoys dance classes, live music and reading psychological thrillers, murder mysteries and the occasional bit of ‘chick lit’.

Anita Luque ACIPP- Payroll Manager

Anita was born and brought up in Weymouth. After running her own business for a number of years she returned to college to gain qualifications in the business sector, specialising in payroll administration, and has recently qualified by gaining the Certificate in Pensions Administration. At Advoco, Anita is responsible for the management of the entire payroll section. This covers the day to day running of payroll for Clients as well as the end of year submissions and also Auto-Enrolment. In her spare time she enjoys cycling, walking and genealogy.

Diane Carroll,  FMAAT -  Account Manager

Diane is originally from Wiltshire and acquired 'A' level Accountancy and the BTEC National Diploma in business studies. She started her career in an accountants practice in Bath and Warminster, working in both offices. She achieved FMAAT status when moving to Weymouth in 1988. She manages a broad range of clients including personal and small businesses. In her spare time, Diane enjoys travelling, live music and fitness classes.

Richard Panrucker - Accounts Assistant

Richard has lived in Weymouth his whole life. He studied at The Wey Valley School and went on to complete his A levels at The Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester. Richard joined Advoco in February 2014 and is currently working towards accomplishing the AAT qualification. Outside of work, Richard enjoys watching and playing an array of sports, particularly football and basketball. He also has a great passion for cooking.

Rachel Rose, MAAT - Accounts Assistant

Rachel was brought up in Weymouth but moved to London for almost 20 years. She escaped back to Weymouth in 2004. Having worked in the travel industry before children she then retrained and qualified as a Bookkeeper and then completed her AAT qualification in 2007. She has worked in accounts and finance in the building trade and for a local charity. In her spare time she enjoys fitness, live music, going to the cinema and watching Moto GP.

Emma Horwood -Payroll Assistant

Emma grew up in a small town in Oxfordshire. She moved to Weymouth after leaving school and continued her studies at Weymouth college. Emma previously spent 4 years at a local Accountants gaining knowledge and experience in bookkeeping and payroll; developing a keen interest in Payroll. In her spare time Emma enjoys quality time with her teenage daughter and going back to Oxfordshire to visit family and friends.

Helen Battershell - Accounts Assistant

Helen was born and brought up in Dorset. She studied at The Sir John Colfox school in Bridport and after finishing A-Levels went on to complete a Business and Administration apprenticeship. Helen joined Advoco in March 2014 and is currently working towards achieving the AAT qualification. In her spare time Helen enjoys horse riding and cycling, eating out with friends and planning her next adventure abroad.

Wendy Barwick - Receptionist/Administration

Originally from Wiltshire, Wendy lived in Bristol for a number of years before relocating to Weymouth in 1996. With a strong administration background, having been a Personal Assistant to various Directors over the past 23 years, Wendy has diverse experience in Human Resources, exports, imports, customer service and sales and marketing, and came to Advoco after working for a local manufacturing company for 16 years. Wendy is focused on giving excellent customer service, whilst maintaining and improving the Company administration systems and procedures. Outside of work, Wendy enjoys cooking for friends, Kai Bo and Yoga to keep fit, holidays in exotic countries, and is a keen follower of Formula One motor racing.

Paula Carter - Receptionist/Administration

Paula moved to Weymouth in 2012 from Hertfordshire. She has worked within accountancy for most of her working life as a secretary/administrator. She worked for Mercer & Hole, Chartered Accountants in St Albans, Hertfordshire for nearly 24 years, 9 years before leaving to have her two children and then for another 15 years once they had started school. In her spare time she likes to walk her dog and is very keen on flower arranging which she studied at college and passed her NVQ exams.

Lara McMahon - Receptionist/Administration

Lara was born in Weymouth and completed her AAT qualification in 2007. She has worked as an Accounts Assistant and Bookkeeper since then. Lara has three very young children, so she is currently working part-time in administration and bookkeeping at Advoco. She enjoys spending her spare time having fun days out with her family.
